About Us

Our Mindset

At Lowing Light & Grip, we believe great production is born from the perfect balance of creativity, craftsmanship, and reliability. Our mindset is simple: build smart, work hard, stay curious.

We don’t chase trends—we build tools and workflows that last. Whether it’s on set, in the studio, or behind the scenes, our approach combines old-school precision with new-school problem solving. Every project is personal, every challenge is a chance to get better.

We’re not just here to rent gear. We’re here to think with you, build with you, and make sure your production moves forward—flawlessly.

Our History

Founded by Dave Lowing in 1985, Lowing Light & Grip began with humble roots in a garage. Armed with a single light kit and a deep well of expertise in sheet metal, steel, and wood project design, Dave brought together hands-on know-how with IATSE stagehand credentials and a sharp understanding of audio/visual technologies.

Over the decades, we’ve grown into a full-scale operation—headquartered in an 18,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Wyoming and complemented by a 7,600 sq. ft. studio facility in Grand Rapids. Today, our fleet includes five fully-equipped grip trucks ready to roll for productions of all sizes. Our team of seasoned professionals continues to lead with the same dedication that got us started: delivering high-quality, impeccably maintained gear while embracing the technologies and workflows that push production forward.

At Lowing Light & Grip, our legacy is built on craftsmanship, adaptability, and a commitment to supporting every stage of your creative process.

Our Process

Our process isn’t about pushing standard gear lists—it’s about listening, understanding, and collaborating. Every project begins with thoughtful consultation to make sure you get exactly what you need, not just what’s available.

We bring deep production knowledge to every interaction—no matter your role on set. From reviewing gear lists and asking the right questions, to clarifying terminology and exploring creative options, we help translate vision into reality. We assess labor needs, flag potential gaps, and offer informed solutions, always ready to pivot and problem-solve with precision.

This isn’t just a transaction—it’s a tailored experience designed around your goals. When you work with Lowing Light & Grip, you’re getting more than equipment. You’re gaining a production partner who’s invested in making sure everything runs smoothly, from prep to wrap.

Extensive Inventory

Backed by real production support, we’re not just here to hand off equipment—we’re here to help your production run smoothly from start to finish. Every rental comes with the insight, care, and experience of a team that understands the demands of real-world production. Whether you're working on a feature, commercial, web series, or student project, no matter the project - we’ll help you navigate gear choices, crew needs, and on-set logistics with support that lasts from prep through wrap.

LOWING STUDIOS

Lowing Studios is a purpose-built production facility designed to simplify workflow and support creative teams from load-in to wrap. Located in Grand Rapids, the 7600 sq. ft. facility offers two flexible soundstages, reliable infrastructure, and on-site access to professional grip and lighting equipment—all under one roof.

Built by filmmakers for filmmakers, the space is intentionally practical: high ceilings, ground-level load-in, clean power, fast symmetrical fiber internet, and adaptable layouts that work just as well for commercial shoots and interviews as they do for live events and content creation. When you book Lowing Studios, gear from Lowing Light & Grip moves with you seamlessly—so you can spend less time coordinating logistics and more time focused on the work.

At its core, Lowing Studios exists to remove friction from production and create an environment where crews can work efficiently, collaboratively, and with confidence.
